The true meaning behind kryptonite

So I was recently thinking about superman and his stupid reaction to rendering him helpless and thinking how stupid it was when it struck me. Maybe it's not stupid at all. Maybe it has to do with the trauma of loosing his parents, friends, and home planet. What if the green rocks don't actually effect  superman on a physical level, but on a mental one.

So I was thinking about panic attacks, since i've had quite a few since I've been alive, and I have discovered one thing. Panic attacks shut you down. They can cripple you to the point were you just want to lay on the floor and die. Whats this have to do with Superman? Simple, he isn't being effected physically, but emotionally. Their have been people who can have panic attacks just by looking at a familiar object that brings back bad memories.  I'm pretty sure that knowing that your parents were killed is a traumatic experience that could possibly bring on a panic attack. So what if superman is experiencing a panic attack when he sees the green rock of his home world. So the argument for Superman being stupid because he is weak against kryptonite is a little less stupid. Its just mental problem, which brings the question of why he hasn't gone to therapy to fix his problem.
